Confronting the Truth
Vanessa was in disbelief after reading the signature below the doodles. She couldn’t bring herself to believe that MiG was the owner of the notebook, as this meant she had failed to recognize what kind of person MiG truly was. Even if Vanessa didn’t want to believe it, there was nothing she could do about it, as MiG’s signature was right in front of her along with the little doodle of a boy walking in the rain all by himself while holding an umbrella.
For some time, Vanessa just kept looking at the doodle, thinking about what to do next. After some contemplation, she decided to talk with her friend about it. The next day, the holidays were over, and she went to college as usual, but today she wanted to discuss the notebook with her friend, who was the only person who knew about it.
Vanessa entered the class and saw her lovely friend waiting for her at their usual bench. She sat beside her friend, troubled about what to say. Vanessa couldn’t decide how to start the conversation and tell her friend everything about the notebook. Seeing Vanessa like this, her friend Ava teasingly said, “So my friend can’t bring herself to tell me about something, hmm? Is it that you got a boyfriend?” She gasped, “You traitor! You didn’t even tell me that you were talking to a guy, and now out of nowhere, you have a boyfriend. Not good, Vanessa.” she said, pouting like a little kid.
“It’s not that. You know everything about me. It’s about the notebook I picked up from the hallway the other day. I wanted to return it the same day, but there was no name on it, so I decided to read it in the hope of finding its owner so I could return the notebook. After I finished reading the whole notebook, I noticed some pages were missing at the end where the person last wrote about himself. So, I turned some more pages and saw a doodle with a signature, and it was MiG’s.” Vanessa said, telling Ava about the signature and the doodle in the notebook.
Ava suggested Vanessa go straight to MiG, give the notebook to him, and ask him directly if it was his. According to her, this should be a straightforward and easy thing to do. However, Vanessa was hesitant about this as she had never had a proper conversation with MiG before. Whenever MiG had tried to talk to her, she had been a bit rude, as she had always thought MiG had ulterior motives and did everything just to appear good. Because of this, she was struggling to believe the notebook belonged to him. From the notebook, it was clear what kind of person MiG truly was.
Seeing Vanessa confused, Ava suggested she should first try to befriend MiG and apologize for judging him and always saying rude things to him. After some time, Vanessa could then tell MiG about the notebook. Vanessa thought this was doable, so she agreed with Ava.
Ava, being Ava, dragged Vanessa out of the class to meet MiG so they could talk to each other. Ava knew that Vanessa would take her precious time to muster the courage to go and say sorry, as expected from an overthinker.
