MiG : Chapter 7

Echoes of Resilience

Vanessa read and turned page after page, learning more and more about the mysterious author of the notebook. She was drawn into the author’s world, captivated by their courage and resilience in the face of adversity. As she read about the author’s tumultuous childhood experiences, Vanessa couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of admiration for their strength at such a young age. She marveled at how the author navigated through difficult times.

The Notebook:
Upon shifting to the new city, my father got work at the same place where my Grandpa used to work. Now I was sent to school for my education, obviously. There, I made some friends, and it was not that difficult for me to go to school because I had experienced pretty much the same things. So while other children were crying not to go to school, I was doing fine. Everything was pretty well, and as we all know, life can’t be smooth. So something happened where my father worked, and he was accused of stealing money. Apparently, my father was asked to deposit the money in the bank, so he went to the bank, deposited the money into the account where it should be, and came back home. We were living at the same place where my father worked. Today also, I remember that night. It was around 9 PM when two officers came barging in and took my father with them. I didn’t know what was going on as I was in 2nd grade at that time. I don’t remember much as it all happened a long time ago. My mother told me that I was always asking her when father would be back. She used to say he would be back soon. She told me that at night too, I used to wake up in the midnight and ask her, is father back?

Then a few days later (nearly a week later), father got released and came back. He was so disturbed and fed up by false accusations that at midnight of the same day, he tried to end his life by drinking poison. When he consumed some, he drank some water afterward, which resulted in him throwing up. Fortunately, due to this noise, my mother woke up. When she saw the bottle of poison, she understood the situation and called neighbors for help. Luckily, they helped and took my father to the hospital. My mother went with them, so I stayed at the neighbors’ house. I was not told anything till it was morning, probably because I was a little kid. My father was saved, and we had to leave the place we had because it was given to us due to my father’s job. So we went to Granny’s house as we were in the same city now. All of our belongings were at that place; nothing was given back to us, even cell phones of my parents were at the place where my father worked.

After some days, father recovered and was back with us, and the case was closed after my father gave them money which was lost, even though he did not take even a single penny, so basically justice was not served and the case was closed. After everything which happened, my father got a job at a different place, and as we were staying at my Granny’s house, Granny started saying things like electricity bills are quite high and all just after 3-4 days, and she said so because we were drinking cold water from the refrigerator as it was summer. So father started looking for a house, and in between all this, I had to change my school because there was a better one which was Government, so I didn’t have to pay a fee and the teaching quality was top-notch. These kinds of schools were newly opening in the state. I gave entrance exams and cleared it, so for my 3rd grade, I was in a new school, and just after that, father bought a new plot for us and quickly built a house there, and we shifted again but in the same city as my Granny. Now everything was going well, and my father slowly became self-employed, and I too was enjoying my school time. I made new friends in my new school.

As Vanessa absorbed the author’s poignant narrative, she couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of admiration for their resilience and determination. The author’s ability to overcome hardships at very young age, earning her respect and admiration. She found herself drawn to the author’s strength and kindness, feeling a growing sense of admiration and appreciation for their character.
